A 2C global temperature increase will cause irreversible damage: report
The State of the Cryosphere Report, published by the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative, warns that even a 2C increase in global warming will result in catastrophic damage to Earth's ice sheets, mountain glaciers, snow, sea ice, and permafrost. The report emphasises that limiting global warming to 1.5C is the only option to avoid severe and irreversible consequences for ecosystems, societies, and nature. The findings call for urgent measures, including the phase-out of fossil fuels and financial mechanisms to support climate action, to address the significant threats posed by the changing cryosphere.
