Abu Dhabi launches first sea cage aquaculture project to boost sustainability
The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) has launched the Middle East’s first sea cage aquaculture project, aiming to promote sustainable fish farming and reduce pressure on wild fisheries. The project will conduct scientific studies on culturing local fish species using floating cages, equipped with advanced monitoring systems powered by AI. These systems will track water quality and fish behaviour to ensure efficient and environmentally friendly operations. With six floating cages capable of producing 100 tonnes of fish annually, the project seeks to support food security and sustainable aquaculture development in Abu Dhabi. (
