AI-powered initiative aims to halt ocean plastic pollution

CleanHub, a Berlin-based startup founded in 2019, is addressing the urgent environmental issue of marine plastic pollution with an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solution. Utilising AI, CleanHub has developed a platform that facilitates local waste management services in coastal areas of Asia and Africa to collect and properly dispose of nonrecyclable plastic, preventing it from entering the oceans. This AI-powered track-and-trace system, embodied in a mobile app, enables the efficient collection of plastic waste, which is then converted into energy fuel. In partnership with 300 global brands, CleanHub has successfully collected over 8 million kg of plastic waste, benefiting 225,000 households. The startup's approach not only offers a scalable solution to plastic pollution but also enhances transparency in waste management, contributing significantly to global sustainability efforts.
