Aquaculture's by-product utilisation has improved industry sustainability

The Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index for 2023-2024 indicates positive change among protein producers in embracing ESG approaches, with 55% now considered to have embraced ESG. The aquaculture sector, in particular, outperformed land-based protein producers on all risk factors, recording a 9% increase in average score. The report emphasises the role of marine ingredients, such as fishmeal and fish oil, in supporting protein production for a growing human population, with three-quarters of global fishmeal and fish oil production used in aquaculture as aquafeed.
