# Atmospheric rivers set to hit US west coast

Large parts of the western US face an impending "atmospheric river" event, the "Pineapple Express", following historic rainfall in San Diego. The National Weather Service warns of heavy rain, wind, and potential flooding. Atmospheric rivers, such as the "Pineapple Express", transport vast amounts of moisture, with stronger ones carrying up to 15 times the Mississippi River's flow. This phenomenon, exacerbated by warming sea surface temperatures, poses significant climate challenges.
