Australian government pledges $15m to boost Queensland's aquaculture industry

The Australian government has committed AUD15m ($10.1m) to support the growth of Queensland’s aquaculture industry, following a AUD7.5m investment in 2023. The newly launched Queensland Aquaculture Strategy 2024-2034 focuses on diversifying the sector, improving sustainability, and enhancing biosecurity. Key initiatives include research on tropical rock oysters, waste management, farm automation, and support for First Nation businesses. Minister Mark Furner emphasised the economic and community benefits, with the industry reaching a record value of AUD263m. The strategy was developed with input from industry operators, First Nations custodians, and academic institutions to promote sustainable seafood production. (The Fish Site
