Blue bonds to boost ocean conservation investments: comment
Blue bonds, a novel form of sustainability investment designed to finance ocean and coastal resource conservation, are emerging as a trend in sustainable investing. Following the success of green bonds, which raised over $500bn for environmentally friendly projects, blue bonds aim to fund the conservation and sustainable management of ocean resources. Seychelles issued the first blue bond in 2018, but only 25 others have been issued to date. The blue bond market is still in its early stages, with the potential to follow a trajectory similar to green bonds as awareness grows about the importance of the blue economy. (
