Amsterdam-based startup Brineworks has secured $2.2m in funding to advance its Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) technology. This innovation sustainably extracts carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen (H2) from seawater via electrolysis, significantly reducing the cost of CO2 capture to under $100 per tonne—compared to $230–$630 per tonne for Direct Air Capture (DAC). The technology supports the production of e-fuels, aiding decarbonisation in maritime and aviation industries. The funding will help Brineworks accelerate technical development and launch its first pilot project. (Carbon Herald)
