Carbon dioxide removal efforts fall short of Paris Agreement goals: study
A new study published in Nature Climate Change reveals a significant "CDR gap" in current plans to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, highlighting insufficient efforts to meet the Paris Agreement's 1.5C warming limit. Current land-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) methods, such as afforestation, are falling short of the levels required, with projections showing a gap of 0.4 to 5.5 billion tonnes annually by 2050. The study emphasises the need for increased action and clearer reporting on CDR strategies to ensure effective climate mitigation. (
