Crown Estate advances floating wind farms with offshore wind leasing round in Celtic Sea

The Crown Estate has launched the latest phase of its Offshore Wind Leasing Round 5, aimed at developing floating wind farms in the Celtic Sea off South Wales and South West England. The initiative could generate up to 4.5 GW of renewable energy, enough to power over 4 million homes, and is expected to create over 5,000 jobs and deliver a £1.4bn ($1.85bn) economic boost. For the first time, the leasing round includes a pre-approved plan for grid connection, streamlining the development process. Bidders are encouraged to propose ambitious plans that support local communities, skills development, and sustainable practices. This effort is part of a broader partnership with Great British Energy to accelerate the UK’s clean energy transition. (The Crown Estate - Press Release)
