'Repowering' wind turbines for carbon capture

Around 400,000 wind turbines are currently in operation, but they all face disposal challenges within 20 years. The carbon footprint of this issue is uncertain and not considered in Net Zero budgets. Repowering, the replacement of old turbines with more efficient models, is proposed to address this. However, less than 10% of Europe's turbines are being repowered due to bureaucratic obstacles. Some suggest using turbines for carbon capture, but this raises environmental and practical concerns. Wind turbine blades entering landfills are becoming a problem, with Europe seeking a ban by 2025. Wind energy's waste, short lifespan, and rare material use pose environmental and financial challenges. (Spectator Australia)
