# Dubai-based lab grow heat-resistant coral for restoration

Coral Vita, a private company, is growing nearly 1,000 pieces of coral in land-based aquariums near Dubai Marina. Despite the unlikely location, the coral is thriving, and once healthy, Coral Vita plans to relocate them to waters outside Dubai. Coral restoration programs face challenges due to climate change and environmental degradation, but they are crucial for preventing coral species' extinction. The Persian Gulf's corals, adapted to high temperatures, make them ideal candidates for studying how reefs respond to extreme heat. The efforts contribute to global biodiversity and support carbon storage and shoreline protection. ([The New York Times)](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/13/climate/emirates-coral-restoration.html)
