EU draft plan emphasises carbon capture to meet emissions targets

The EU is reportedly planning to capture and store hundreds of millions of tons of CO2 emissions by 2050, according to a draft document. The plan aims to help industries in the EU meet the net-zero emissions target by requiring companies to adopt green energy and change production methods. For sectors lacking the necessary technologies, capturing emissions becomes crucial. The draft proposes capturing up to 450 million tons of CO2 per year by 2050, with most stored underground. The document also suggests using captured CO2 in industrial processes and direct capture from the atmosphere. Building the infrastructure would require EU and national funds. (Reuters)
