EU approves €19.6m project to commercialise floating wave energy converter

The European Union has approved a €19.6m ($22m) project to commercialise OceanEnergy's OE35 floating wave energy converter. The WEDUSEA project, a collaboration between 14 partners across the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Spain, aims to demonstrate a 1MW grid-connected device at the European Marine Energy Centre in Scotland. Co-funded by the EU Horizon Europe Programme and Innovate UK, the project will span three phases: design, two years of testing, and eventual commercialisation. OceanEnergy predicts wave energy will play a significant role in global electricity supply, with the OE35 leading the way. (Power Engineering International
