EU announces €3.5bn funding for sustainable ocean projects at Our Ocean Conference

To combat marine pollution and promote sustainable maritime activities, the European Commission has allocated €3.5bn ($3.7bn) towards ocean sustainability projects. The funding aims to innovate solutions that diminish maritime pollution, enhance sustainable shipping practices, and support the broader goals of the European Green Deal by fostering a sustainable blue economy. The initiative highlights the EU's commitment to environmental stewardship and aims to encourage sustainable practices across Europe's maritime and related sectors. The announcement came at the Our Ocean Conference. This international effort, launched in 2014 and hosted by a different government each year, aims to foster global ocean governance and action to support marine conservation and sustainable development.
