EU Commission issues guidance to boost sustainable aquaculture

The European Commission has released two working documents aimed at facilitating sustainable aquaculture across EU member states. Addressing concerns from producers about complex regulations and administrative burdens, the guidance seeks to streamline procedures and improve access to essential resources such as space and water. While aquaculture in the EU lags globally, accounting for only 10% of local consumption and less than 2% of the world's production, the measures aim to tap into the sector's vast potential. The guidance also includes best practices from Norway and the UK, enhancing the framework for member states as they implement their strategic aquaculture plans. (Fish Farmer Magazine)
