EU proposes seafood catch limits for 2024

The European Commission has proposed catch limits (Total Allowable Catches - TACs) for 18 fish stocks in the EU's Atlantic Ocean waters, Kattegat, and Skagerrak for 2024, with an innovative multi-annual approach introducing nine TACs spanning two to three years. These proposals are rooted in scientific advice, and 12 TACs aim for Maximum Sustainable Yield  to ensure stock sustainability. Catch limits for five stocks, including plaice, hake, and horse mackerel, are proposed to increase based on scientific advice. The proposal also focuses on predictability, retains protective measures for eel stocks, and is subject to consultation with non-EU nations. (The Fishing Daily)
