Experts suggest global collaboration to explore the potential of geoengineering

A panel of global experts has called on governments to place a moratorium on geoengineering efforts to combat climate change. The Climate Overshoot Commission highlighted the dangers of tinkering with the global climate through untested technologies, including solar radiation management, which aims to reduce sunlight striking Earth's surface. While the panel recommended allowing academic research into geoengineering possibilities, it urged against governments embarking on such activities due to the potential for unintended and transboundary consequences. The panel called for governments to unilaterally decide on a moratorium and emphasised the need for shared, open, and transparent research on the subject. (The Guardian)
