Farmed salmon has become Iceland’s second most valuable seafood export, worth ISK37bn ($268.8m), trailing only behind cod, which earns ISK136bn ($988.7m). As Iceland’s aquaculture sector expands, salmon exports are growing rapidly. The industry organisation Radar projects that salmon will remain in second place for years, continuing to increase in value and volume. Unlike cod, regulated by annual quotas, salmon production faces no such restrictions and is rapidly advancing with various planned land-based projects. (Fish Farmer Magazine)
