First Chinese methanol-powered bunkering ship operational

China's first methanol bunkering ship, Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, began its maiden voyage on January 13, 2024, following a 113-day conversion process at Zhoushan Putuo Changhong Shipbuilding Co. The 16,000 cbm vessel, owned by Shanghai SIPG Energy Services Co., is designed for ship-to-ship bunkering operations during container loading and unloading. It is the world's largest methanol bunkering ship in operation and represents a response to the maritime industry's growing focus on cleaner and more sustainable fuel alternatives. The vessel is part of China's first green methanol industrial chain project in collaboration with industry partners. (Safety4Sea)
