Floating solar power gains popularity in South-East Asia

The adoption of floating solar power arrays, known as "floatovoltaics," is gaining momentum in South-East Asia to alleviate land constraints for renewable energy expansion. With projections indicating a potential capacity increase to 105 of the region's total solar capacity by 2030, floatovoltaics offer promise in optimising water bodies for energy production. However, concerns persist regarding engineering complexities, environmental impacts, and ecosystem disturbances. While offering space-saving benefits, floatovoltaics demand rigorous monitoring to mitigate potential ecological and social ramifications, underscoring the need for cautious implementation and further research.
