France targets 45 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050

French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire has announced an ambitious plan to scale up France's offshore wind capacity to 45 GW by 2050, with at least half of the capacity utilising European-made components. The revised target, increased from the initial 40 GW, aligns with France’s broader strategy to enhance its energy independence and support European industrial resilience against international competition, particularly from China. The strategy includes accelerating project timelines and incorporating stringent carbon and resilience criteria in future wind farm tenders under the upcoming Net-Zero Industry Act. (Euractiv)
