Germany launches green shipping action plan

Germany has launched its National Action Plan for Climate-Friendly Shipping, aiming to accelerate the maritime sector’s energy transition. Spearheaded by the Federal Ministries of Digital and Transport (BMDV) and Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the plan outlines strategies like green shipping corridors and alternative propulsion technologies. Key funding initiatives include programmes supporting fuel cells, sustainable fleet modernisation, and onboard power innovations. Unveiled at the Zero Emission Shipping Symposium in Hamburg, the plan seeks to make Germany a leader in climate-neutral shipping, aligning with the International Maritime Organization’s target of net-zero emissions for ocean shipping by 2050.
