Spanish renewables developer Grenergy has started building a 4.1 GWh energy storage project in Chile's Atacama Desert, which it claims will be the world's largest. The Oasis de Atacama project, expected to come online in phases over the next 36 months, involves a $1.4bn investment. While the company did not specify the storage type, the project includes a 1 GW solar farm. Grenergy has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement to supply over 8 TWh of green energy to a subsidiary of COPEC, one of Chile's main fuel distribution companies. (Recharge News)
