Hanwha Ocean secures $247m eco-friendly VLAC deal

South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean, formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), has secured an order for two 93,000 cubic metre ultra-large ammonia carriers (VLACs) equipped with eco-friendly technology. Valued at approximately KRW 331.2bn ($247m), the vessels were commissioned by an unnamed shipowner in the Oceania region, marking the seventh such order in the past two months. The ammonia carriers will incorporate Hanwha Ocean’s eco-friendly technologies, including the Hanwha SmartShip Solution & Service (HS4) smart ship platform and the shaft generator motor (SGM). Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2027. (Offshore Energy)
