Hima launches $250m land-based trout farm
Norwegian sustainable food company Hima Seafood has launched its first land-based aquaculture project, a 30,000 sq m Norwegian trout farm. The farm is based on a modern freshwater recycling aquaculture system (RAS) that cleans the water as it enters and exits the fish farm. The project, with a $250m investment from sustainability firm Foresight and personal funds, aims to produce 8,000 tonnes of premium trout per year. Unlike traditional salmon farming, the farm focuses on animal welfare and environmental protection, using clean water, avoiding diseases, and minimising stress factors for the fish. (
