Hybrid barge to reduce emissions by 40% at Orkney fish farm
Cooke Aquaculture Scotland has introduced a second hybrid feed barge at its Vestness site in Westray, Orkney, as part of its commitment to sustainability. Following the successful installation of the first hybrid system at its Mill Bay site in Stronsay in 2022, the company aims to reduce carbon emissions and noise levels. The hybrid system charges batteries using the generator's residual capacity, resulting in a 40% reduction in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The Vestness site marks the first retrofit installation on an existing barge in Orkney, contributing to a quieter working environment and sustainability efforts. (
