Iceland increases aquaculture oversight funding by $15.9bn
Icelandic parliament has approved ISK 2.2bn ($15.9bn) in additional funding for aquaculture oversight in Iceland, in response to concerns raised by the Icelandic National Audit Office. The funding will support the Marine & Freshwater Research Institute and the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority in their efforts to oversee and regulate the aquaculture sector. The funding will be distributed over the next five years, and measures have already been taken to enhance oversight, including the purchase of underwater drones for monitoring fish farms and the introduction of changes in procedures and internal supervision.
