Improved sea lice control on Scottish fish farms following new reporting requirements

Charles Allan, leader of the Scottish Government’s Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI), reported significant success in controlling sea lice on Scottish fish farms, partly due to the new requirement for weekly lice number reporting. Speaking to the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Affairs and Islands Committee, Allan noted that lice numbers have decreased, with no enforcement notices issued in the past year. Improved management practices, including new treatments and better husbandry, have contributed to the success. Allan emphasised that the role of FHI is to encourage continuous improvement and that effective treatments should not harm clinically healthy fish. (Fish Farmer Magazine)
