Indonesia to launch satellite constellation for marine monitoring
Indonesia is advancing its marine conservation and fisheries management by launching a constellation of 20 nanosatellites starting in July. Aimed at improving surveillance of its vast marine resources, the satellites will be equipped for radio frequency monitoring, imaging, and vessel tracking. This initiative, complemented by sea drones, seeks to enhance the active management of conservation areas and optimise the economic utilisation of marine resources. Amid challenges including budget constraints and low compliance among fishing entities, this technological approach represents a significant step toward safeguarding Indonesia's marine biodiversity and ensuring sustainable fisheries.
