Intake riser innovation could lower FPSO vessels emissions

Offshore oil and gas industries are embracing novel technologies to reduce carbon emissions from Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. Researchers are exploring the use of Deep Seawater Intake Risers (SWIRs) to pull cooler water from below the thermocline, significantly reducing gas turbine power consumption and enhancing the efficiency of the cooling system. This strategy demonstrates potential benefits such as reduced fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions, and financial savings. Technical considerations, including SWIR design, collapse resistance, and vessel integration, are crucial for successful deployment, making SWIRs a promising technology in advancing FPSO sustainability.
