The surge in megayacht ownership poses significant environmental and social concerns. These luxury boats, emitting vast amounts of carbon, symbolise extreme wealth inequality and offer owners a shield from public scrutiny and legal accountability. Proposals to curb the megayacht trend include imposing heavy taxes or implementing a nonproliferation treaty to limit their size. Restricting access to ports and territorial waters for oversized yachts, as seen in Naples, could also contribute to mitigating their environmental impact and addressing climate concerns. (
