Mitsui to install its first onboard carbon capture system

Mitsui OSK Lines is set to pioneer maritime carbon capture by installing a system aboard the Nexus Victoria, a 74,910-dwt tanker. Developed by Dutch firm Value Maritime, this 15 MW system will not only scrub sulfur oxide emissions but also capture 10% of the CO2 emissions, with potential scalability of up to 30%. The installation marks a significant advancement in shipborne environmental technology and represents Value Maritime's largest vessel project to date. The system employs an amine-based solution to bind CO2, which is stored until it can be offloaded ashore.
