Mitsui to install its first onboard carbon capture system

Mitsui OSK Lines is set to pioneer maritime carbon capture by installing a system aboard the Nexus Victoria, a 74,910-dwt tanker. Developed by Dutch firm Value Maritime, this 15 MW system will not only scrub sulfur oxide emissions but also capture 10% of the CO2 emissions, with potential scalability of up to 30%. The installation marks a significant advancement in shipborne environmental technology and represents Value Maritime's largest vessel project to date. The system employs an amine-based solution to bind CO2, which is stored until it can be offloaded ashore. The initiative is part of broader efforts to meet decarbonisation goals in the shipping industry, amid growing regulatory and operational challenges. (TradeWinds)
