Engineers have developed a new efficient fish farm using repurposed shipping containers
German startup Seawater Cubes, co-founded by former engineers from Meeresfischzucht Völklingen, has designed a decentralised, small-scale approach for on-land fish farming using repurposed shipping containers. Each unit, made of four shipping containers, can produce 7.8 tonnes of fish annually with a 98% survival rate. The system utilises a unique denitrification technique in the biofilter system and automation to achieve water quality and energy efficiency. Seawater Cubes is offering the system for €350,000 ($369,000) and aims to expand across Europe while promoting local sales to consumers and restaurants. (
