New IUCN report advocates for a regenerative blue economy

The latest IUCN report introduces a comprehensive framework for a Regenerative Blue Economy, aiming to redefine sustainable marine and coastal management globally. It categorises the Blue Economy into three types—traditional, sustainable, and regenerative—each reflecting different levels of environmental integration and sustainability. The report stresses the importance of a regenerative approach, which not only supports ecological restoration but also incorporates social equity and economic sustainability. Emphasising the need for global collaboration, particularly from developing nations and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the report sets out foundational principles and success indicators to guide future economic activities affecting the oceans.  (IUCN)
