New targets laid out at IFFO conference

At the 2024 International Fishmeal and Fish Oil (IFFO) conference in Lisbon last month, Peru announced a 2.51m anchovy fishing quota for its North-Central region, up from 1.68m tonnes in 2023. Peru contributes around 20% of the global fishmeal supply per year, making it an important source country of aquafeed. Discussions highlighted aquaculture’s surpassing of capture fisheries in production, with Africa's sector poised for 74% growth by 2050. Sustainability remains central, with industry leaders advocating for resource efficiency and climate resilience. Challenges include feed innovation and social acceptance of marine ingredients.
