# New targets laid out at IFFO conference

At the 2024 International Fishmeal and Fish Oil (IFFO) conference in Lisbon last month, Peru announced a 2.51m anchovy fishing quota for its North-Central region, up from 1.68m tonnes in 2023. Peru contributes around 20% of the global fishmeal supply per year, making it an important source country of aquafeed. Discussions highlighted aquaculture’s surpassing of capture fisheries in production, with Africa's sector poised for 74% growth by 2050. Sustainability remains central, with industry leaders advocating for resource efficiency and climate resilience. Challenges include feed innovation and social acceptance of marine ingredients. Norway aims to boost domestic marine ingredient production to 25% by 2034, as rising salmon demand drives technological investment and diversification.
