New version of CRISPR gene editing provides better alternative for aquaculture

The Centre for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT) and C4U Corporation are collaborating to apply CRISPR-Cas3 technology to genome editing in major commercial fish species. Developed from Professor Tomoji Mashimo's research, the technology offers similar engineering and efficiency to CRISPR-Cas9 but with increased safety due to a reduction in unintended mutations. CRISPR-Cas3 is not encumbered by complex patents associated with CRISPR-Cas9, making it a practical substitute. CAT aims to provide innovative and accessible technologies for the aquaculture industry, contributing to sustainable and responsible global food production. (The Fish Site)
