NOAA and DOE partner to advance Marine CDR research
On 6 June 2024, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) signed a memorandum of agreement to collaborate on marine carbon dioxide removal (CDR) research and development. The partnership aims to accelerate progress towards the U.S. goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Combining NOAA's ocean science expertise with DOE's carbon removal and energy technology knowledge, the collaboration seeks to enhance research infrastructure, develop accountable CDR protocols, and avoid duplicative efforts.
