Norway to launch world's largest hydrogen-fuelled ferries
Norway's Torghatten Nord has commissioned the construction of the world’s largest hydrogen-fuelled ferries, designed to operate on the country's longest ferry route. The two 117-meter vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2026, will each carry up to 120 cars and 599 passengers. The ferries will utilise green hydrogen produced locally in Bodø and will be powered by 6.4MW fuel cells. The pioneering project, a collaboration with the Norwegian Maritime Authority and Lloyd’s Register, sets a new standard in maritime transport by promoting zero-emission technology over significant distances in challenging conditions.
