Norwegian food safety authority halts salmon farming expansion on Frøya Island following ISA outbreak
The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has blocked further expansion of salmon farming on Frøya island, a key area for the industry, due to concerns over the spread of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA). The Authority has deemed the situation serious, rejecting applications from companies like Frøya Laks to build new facilities. The region, known for its ideal farming conditions, has been severely impacted by ISA, with outbreaks increasing this year. The Authority expects the issue to persist, affecting other salmon farming areas in the country. Frøya has long been one of Norway's prime salmon farming locations. (
