Ocean Ark fish farm to become registered vessel
The Ocean Ark, a pioneering fish-farming trimaran developed by Ocean Sovereign, is making strides towards becoming a registered French vessel with the help of DNV, a global assurance and risk management provider. Designed to adhere to stringent Marpol, Solas, and IMO regulations, this 170-metre vessel boasts a substantial biomass capacity of 4,000 tonnes and incorporates self-cleaning fish pens. Its mobility allows it to navigate away from common marine hazards such as algal blooms and storms, enhancing both fish welfare and environmental safety. The partnership with DNV will focus on critical aspects of classification, certification of systems, and operational integrity. This collaboration aims to set a new standard in sustainable aquaculture by combining robust regulatory frameworks with innovative offshore technology, promising significant benefits for local fishing and aquaculture communities in France.
