Ocean 'bottom trawling' significant source of carbon pollution: study
A study conducted by climate and ocean experts has found that bottom trawling, a fishing method involving dragging weighted nets along the ocean floor, could be a significant source of carbon pollution. The study estimates that up to 370 million mt of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere each year due to this practice. The researchers used ocean models and data on bottom trawling activity globally between 1996-2020 to calculate the impact. (
