# Private equity sees coral reef protection as an investment opportunity

Dale Galvin, a private equity veteran, sees coral reefs as the next big investment opportunity. Coral reefs support economic activities worth trillions and provide vital resources to about a billion people. However, rising ocean temperatures threaten their survival. The Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) has raised $250m and aims to reach $750m to protect and restore reefs, with Galvin managing the private equity portion. His team targets a 20% return by investing in ecosystems that support reef survival, addressing threats including overfishing and pollution. Galvin’s approach exemplifies a combination environmental sustainability with financial returns.
