Record oceans temperatures are exacerbating extreme weather

In 2023, record levels of heat were absorbed by Earth's oceans, intensifying the climate crisis. Oceans, key indicators of global heating, have absorbed 90% of the heat from carbon emissions, with record temperatures causing "freak" weather globally. The heat led to increased ocean stratification, reducing oxygen levels and threatening marine life. Despite global average air temperatures also rising significantly, the study suggests linear rather than accelerating heating since 1995. Researchers stress the need to end coal, oil, and gas use to avoid more extreme weather, climate disruption, and injustice. (The Guardian)
