# Report finds UK fish stocks under significant threat

A report revealing the state of UK fish stocks is deeply concerning, with over a third of the 104 stocks analysed being overfished and a quarter depleted to critically low levels. Half of the crucial 'top 10' stocks for the UK fishing industry are either overfished or critically low. Urgent action is needed from the UK government to end overfishing and fulfil national and international biodiversity commitments to protect marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and the fishing industry's future. This report highlights the importance of sustainable catch limits and calls for political leadership in achieving sustainable fisheries both domestically and in international negotiations on shared stocks.
