# Researchers are developing an underwater camera to detect sea lice larvae

Researchers at the University of Aberdeen are developing an advanced underwater holographic camera to aid Scotland's fish farmers in managing sea lice, a significant challenge to salmon farms. The camera, combined with AI-based automated image identification technology, will rapidly detect and manage microscopic sea lice larvae in the ocean. The technology will provide a faster and more accurate alternative to the current method of analysing water samples in a lab. Supported by AI and machine learning, the system will help identify sea lice and could become a valuable tool for sustainable fish health management.
