Saltend hydrogen and carbon capture plant approved
Plans for "H2H Saltend," a hydrogen and carbon capture plant in East Yorkshire, have been approved, potentially generating 2,200 jobs. Equinor's project aims to cut emissions at Saltend Chemicals Park by a third, equal to removing 500,000 cars. The facility will produce low-carbon hydrogen for industrial use, replacing natural gas, and incorporate carbon capture to store almost 900,000 tonnes of CO2 annually below the North Sea. Part of the UK's decarbonisation efforts, it aligns with the region's transition to a net-zero economy by 2040, though concerns persist over the effectiveness and costs of carbon capture technology.
