SATS seeks $39m from US senate to streamline fish farming regulations
The aquaculture advocacy group, Stronger America Through Seafood (SATS), is requesting $39m from the US Senate to aid the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Ocean and Atmospheric Research (OAR) in enhancing US aquaculture. The funds aim to support the NMFS's strategic initiatives to simplify permitting processes and develop sustainable offshore aquaculture, while the OAR seeks to advance research in aquaculture technologies. The investment is critical as the US currently imports about 85% of its seafood, largely due to bureaucratic delays and unclear regulations that hinder domestic aquaculture growth. (
