Value of Scottish aquaculture sector rises 154% in 10 years

The Scottish Government's marine economy report reveals a 154% increase in the direct economic contribution of Scotland's aquaculture sector to £472m ($602m) over the past decade. Gross value added  rose 30% from £362m between 2020 and 2021, and employment increased by 20% over the last decade. Scottish salmon aquaculture contributes 96% to the marine economy sector. The entire marine economy generated £4.5bn in 2021, with oil and gas dominating at £1.88bn, followed by marine tourism, aquaculture, fishing, and shipbuilding. The salmon sector supports around 2,500 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs, generating £1.3m daily for Scotland's economy. (The Fish Site)
