# Scottish government announces funding for ‘landmark’ North Sea carbon capture project

Scottish Deputy First Minister John Swinney has announced new Scottish government funding for the Acorn carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in St Fergus, Aberdeenshire. The project, supported by the new Labour government, aims to store carbon beneath the North Sea using existing pipelines and is key to Scotland's net-zero goals. Swinney emphasised the economic and social opportunities of Scotland's energy transition, highlighting its potential to create green jobs and support a just transition for oil and gas workers.
